Down East author speaks about book, what her home means to her

ATLANTIC, N.C. (WNCT) — Down East communities in Carteret County have long history throughout the area.

One 92-year-old woman has lived in various areas of the county in her life and has written a book about and it ready to write another one about growing up Down East.

“About the book, during COVID-19, I had spent a lot of time by myself and I had never dreamed of writing a book,” Hill said. “I just started doing some things and gradually adding to it and living it as each day, I had to see what those people were doing. So, with fear and trembling, I showed it to a friend of mine and she came back and said ‘You have to do something with this.’”

Hill grew up in Sea Level and made her way to Atlantic later in her life. Her book is called “The Value of Diamonds” and is fiction but it is based on where she grew up with some of it being based on her experiences.
