See Reese Witherspoon’s 2025 Book Club Selections

Reese Witherspoon has a fresh crop of book club picks for 2025.

Operated through the actress’ media company Hello Sunshine, Reese’s Book Club has seen many great titles since it was founded in 2017. The book club aims to highlight women’s stories, and has featured novels by bestselling authors like Taylor Jenkins Reid, Celeste Ng, Rainbow Rowell and more.

“The first, most important metric I [use to] decide to either pick a book club book or choose a television script or movie is if it’s something you would want to share with a friend,” Witherspoon told Backstage about her selection process for Hello Sunshine.

“My intention is to build community and conversation around art and entertainment, because I am really into connecting people through storytelling. I’m always looking for a fresh perspective on a coming-of-age story or a midlife pivot story or a new take on the rom-com. There are thousands of years of untold stories, so we’re really making up for lost time.”

Beth and Frank have a happy marriage, though it’s built on ignoring their past. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog that comes on the couple’s property, the incident brings Beth back into the orbit of Gabriel Wolfe, a man she loved years ago, and who broke her heart in return.

Witherspoon calls this novel “a gripping mix of thrilling murder mystery, and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to relive your truest love story all over again.”

February: ‘Isola’ by Allegra Goodman

This novel centers Marguerite, an orphan who gets conscripted into a perilous journey to New France with her “enigmatic and volatile” guardian. While there, she falls for a servant (which is strictly forbidden), and the two are exiled to a faraway island to fend for themselves. The novel about a surprisingly feminist heroine is based on a true story and Witherspoon called it “easily one of my favorite historical fiction reads yet.”

January: ‘The Three Lives of Cate Kay’ by Kate Fagan

Atria Books/Amazon

In this novel, author Cate Kay rose to fame with her bestselling book trilogy-turned-movie franchise. The writer, however, is not who she says she is, carrying dark secrets that stem from a tragedy in her past.

“This story swept me away with its big dreams, love and unexpected twists,” Witherspoon says of the book, which has been described as First Lie Wins meets The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
